It’s not easy staying strong in your study habits. Oftentimes there will be days and sometimes weeks where reading God’s word doesn’t seem like a priority.
As bad as that is, it’s just the reality. We’re flawed people, and far from perfect. Whether we forget, avoid, or simply feel as though we don’t have the time, there are a few habits to keep you engaged and invested in the word.
Set A Reminder On Your Phone
The first and simplest tip is to set a reminder on your phone. Whether it’s through a specific bible app, or an alarm that goes off at whatever time, it’s good to have that little nudge you need to open the Bible and start studying.
Whatever you do don’t hit snooze or remind me later. I know it’s tempting, but keep yourself accountable.
Have An Accounabiliy Partner
If an alarm just won’t do the trick, make sure to have an accountability partner. Reach out to a close friend and chances are they will be more than happy to help.
It’s so important to have that friend who will call you out if you’re heading in the wrong direction. You can have bible studies together, tell each other your prayer requests, and just be there for one another in Christ.
Create A Schedule For Yourself
Everyone studies the word differently, so invest in creating a schedule for yourself. Cross out a few events on the calendar and simply have time to study, pray, and just be with God. I’ve found that when I do this in the morning it starts my day off really well.
Usually, I have a better mindset and overall a better day. Whatever you do, don’t put it on the back burner for when you have downtime or get bored. Make studying God’s word a priority in your life and you’ll see the difference.
Host Or Join A Bible Study
If you’re knew to the bible, or enjoy studying in a group, you should try joining a bible study. Me and my high school friends had a bible study every Wednesday at a coffee shop near our school.
This was so good for my spiritual life because I was being held accountable to attend a weekly meeting and read the devotionals from the week before.
Stay In Prayer
Pray before AND after, you start your time with God. I know that prayer is another thing that oftentimes we forget the importance of, but prayer is another amazing way we’re able to connect with God.
Ask God for the ability to see the message He wants to reveal unto you, and for the ability to see it through. Your prayer doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to be genuine.
Bible study is something a lot of people struggle to do on a daily basis, I know I have, but forming certain habits you can stick to will help make your time with God so much better. Try out these tips and see your bible study hit an all time high.
