I created my blog for three main reasons. I wanted to have a platform where I could express myself. I wanted to grow in my writing and marketings skills, and I wanted to make money. Yes, you read that right, I wanted to make money.
I have always been one to run head first at opportunities that some people may view on the risky side. For example, when I was nearly 13 I created my own little business so that my parents would finally buy me a phone.
They made me a deal. If I could pay the phone bill, they would buy the phone. Since I couldn’t get a real job, my business was a way to make money at a young age.
Now, about six years later I decided it was time to take a leap of faith into the blogging world. For the last year, I’ve watched bloggers like Sophia Lee and Taylor Stanford dominate online business.
As bloggers, they are making over six figures all from their laptop. When I started to read income report after income report, my jaw dropped to the floor.
I began reading all about how they started their own blog, how they grew, how they made money, and so much more. It was all so inspiring, and that’s when it hit me.
"If they can do it, so can you."
After tons of research and lots of thought, I finally launched “With Love, Alexis.” Now only four months later, I have made my first $100 as a blogger.
Today I want to walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to create your own blog, make money, and have a platform you can be proud of.

Where Does The Money Come From?
In my experience, the best way to make money from your blog is through affiliate programs. Affiliate programs work by bloggers or influencers providing a link to a product or service. Through that link, their readers purchase the linked product. After a product is purchased, bloggers make a form of commission based off the sale.
This is how I personally make most of the money from my blog. For me, this works really well. Since most of my topics focus on fashion, college must-haves, or other product recommendations I am able to make commission on the items I suggest.
The one hundred dollars that I made came soley from affiliate programs. These programs are a great way to jump right in and make money from the get-go without much experience.
How Do I Join Affiliate Programs?
There are countless affiliate programs you can join. As a beginner you want to start off with programs that don’t require a lot of traffic. Down below I’ve listed out a few programs that are perfect for beginner bloggers.
These programs accept almost every applicant, give you nearly instant access, and are user friendly. Click on any of the programs below to apply!
Selling A Product
Another really good way to make money from your blog is by selling your own product. This could include selling an online course, individual product, etc. By selling your own product, you’re able to run your very own business and make money off of everything you sell.
This is an amazing way to make money through your blog, but most bloggers wait until they have more experience to take this step.
One popular way to make money through your blog is through ad revenue. As a blogger, you make ad revenue from readers who click on any ads on your website. You can make a lot of money with ad revenue if you sign up under the right company.
SHE Media, Google Adsense, and Mediavine are all well known companies that put ads on your site in exchange for revenue. Google Adsense is the best company to start with. As you gain more traffic, you can move onto the higher paying companies.
How Do I Make Money Outside Of My Blog?
This blog post may be all about making money from your website, but there are also various ways to make money outside of your blog. One way that a lot of “influencers” are making money is by joining ambassador programs.
In an ambassador program, you apply to be able to receive discounts, and sometimes commission, from the use of a designated referral code. For example, if you posted on Instagram a product you liked from a specific company you could advertise your code “LASTNAME20” to get credit with that company.
Ambassador programs are a great way to make a little extra money and get noticed by companies.
Do I Have To Put Money In To Get Money Out?
One of the biggest questions, concerns, and setbacks that blogging brings is “how much do I have to spend before I start to make money?” I one hundred percent understand this concern.
It is extremely nerve-racking to put money into something when you aren’t sure if you can truly make money out of it. This was a big problem for me.
I knew of bloggers who said to invest in a self-hosted site, a nice theme, and even an official domain. When you look at all of that, it can really add up.
At first, I started off with the bare necessities. I used a free theme, but I spent money on a domain and a self-hosted site. This was definitely a good decision for me.
I was able to write out blog posts, get comfortable with WordPress, and even start to see results. Eventually, I did buy a professional theme, but it’s really up to you.
Overall, I was able to spend very little in retrospective to how many opportunities I now have with the investments I’ve made.
How Long Until I Can Make Money?
If you’ve ever read that blogging is a get rich quick scheme, they are one hundred percent lying. Making money with your blog takes a lot of time.
When I decided to create this page, I had no idea it would turn into this much passion, work, and effort. You have to put in a lot of hard work before it pays off.
With that being said, I will also be the first to tell you how glad I am that I decided to create my blog. Money aside, I have learned so much about marketing online, writing, SEO, and so much more.
Making this blog took a lot of work, but I’ve enjoyed every second of it. If you’re on the fence, take a leap of faith and start on the road to blogging success.
Do I Need A High Amount Of Traffic?
One of the most difficult parts about having a blog, is getting traffic to your site. It can be so frustrating to put so much time and effort in only to get a few visitors on your blog.
While you want as much traffic as you can have, high traffic isn’t the key to success. All you need are a few recurring visitors to get your blog off of its feet.
If you can build a strong following of readers that trust your opinions and values what you have to say, you are on the road to success. Whatever you do, don’t let a low number of traffic discourage you.
Isn’t Blogging A Dying Platform?
If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a million times. Isn’t this whole blogging thing a thing of the past?
Think back to the time you were looking for a delicious recipe for dinner or maybe a diy gift idea for a friend. Where did you look?
Pinterest is the first place you would go for all of your recipes, tips, and diy crafts. Well you remember that link to the oh so yummy recipe? That link was from a blogger just like me.
While most people won’t do a Google search looking for blogs to read, plenty of people are doing Pinterest searches for thousands of blog related topics.
Blogging may look a little bit different, but it isn’t going anywhere. Find something unique to yourself and get to writing. Creating your very own blog will lead you to having your own platform, learning new things, and even making some money. Happy blogging!
