Last summer, I was preparing to take my first trip out of the country. I was going on a cruise to Mexico with some of my closest friends as our high school senior trip. All of us, and our moms, traveled on a cruise for five days, two of which we spent in Progreso and Cozumel.
It was one of the best vacations I’ve ever taken, and I would highly recommend it to anyone itching to travel. If you want to find out exactly what to expect if you’re thinking about going on a cruise yourself, keep reading.
The water was clear blue, laughs endless, and days way too short. I’ve never had an experience quite like the cruise that we traveled on. We boarded the Royal Caribbean and the excitement didn’t end until we stepped off the boat and landed our feet back in America.
On the ship, we watched comedy shows, ate delicious food, and layed out on the deck for hours. Looking out from the side of the ship, the ocean went as far as the eye could see. It was incredible. The wind recklessly messed up all of our hair, as we leaned over the side of the ship to watch the waves hit the side of the boat. It’s an experience I won’t ever forget.
Luckily, only one of us became seasick, but besides that we didn’t have any problems. We had such an amazing experience on the ship. They had amazing service, terrific activities, and we all had such an amazing time.
Our first stop was in Progreso. At this destination we visited the historic ruins, swam through a beautiful waterfall, and snorkled in a cave filled with stalagmites.
At the ruins we were able to see all of the amazing buildings and learn about how and why they were built. We were even able to stand on the top and see what used to be an entire town.
Afterwards we got ready to go swimming, and saw a beautiful waterfall and an unique cave. This has to be my all time favorite spot we went to. It was absolutely gorgeous.
Once you got your life jacket on you swam through a cave and came out to a natural waterfall surrounded by ivy. Then after swiming under and through the waterfall, we were able to take photots in front of it.
At the cave we were handed our snorkling gear and we started swiming through the dark cave. It was such a unique thing to see all of the stalagmites rising from under the water-filled cave.
Lastly, we ate traditional Mexican taco that were so yummy. I loved being able to experience their amazing sites as well as their food. Progreso definitely was a beauitful place to visit.
The next destination, Cozumel, Mexico, held memories that will last a lifetime. In Cozumel, we decided to instead of doing various excursions we booked a day at the Occidental Xcaret Destination.
We made this decision a little last minute because most of the excursions were booked, but I’m so glad we did. The resort was so beautiful and we loved it.
The entire day was spent on the gorgeous Mexico beach that had chairs for laying out, a pool, kayaking, snorkeling, and more. The also offered unlimited drinks and an all you can each buffet for lunch.
I personally went kayaking, layed out, and of course jumped off the pier they had. This relaxing day was perfect for those of us who love a laid back vacation.
On our walk down to the beach, we even saw a little wildlife. Mexico’s version of the baby racoon gave us a visit on our path. They were so adorable and we loved watching them.
The scenery at this resort was perfect with amazing foutains, greenery, and swimming area. I loved this destination and would love to go back.

If you’ve never been to Mexico, or on a cruise, it is an adventure you must go on. I enjoyed every second and am already wishing I could go back.
