Normally, I don’t read the back of a book. It always seems to leave out important story lines, spoil too much, or somewhere in between.
When I read the back of That Boy by Jillian Dodd, I came to expect any old high school love triangle. The back talked about a girl with two boy best friends. One would teach her how to kiss and the other would take her to prom. I assumed this book would be a childish, teen romance book, but I was wrong.
Leisurely, I began reading in front of the pool. I had only planned to get through a few chapters just to get a start on the book. Hours later I had made it nearly half way through.
I was surprisingly thrilled with how this book turned out. While it is a novel about romance, it also holds so many other heavy life lessons. Dodd writes about friendship, loss, and life in a way that feels real.
Her writing really hits home when it comes to relating to the characters and feeling as if you truly know them as a person not just a character.
While reading this novel I could practically feel every emotion and feeling as the words came to life. The characters and events throughout the book seep through the page and right into the world.
As well as her writing, the story line is definitely an amazing one. I don’t want to spoil any big events so I won’t say much, but I laughed and cried throughout the entire book.
